Pay The Price For Peace reportageImage part of the Reportage \"pay the price for peace\" / in August 2005, the Israeli disengagement plan in Gaza Strip went ahead in spite of a large disagreement among the Israeli society and settlers.Dugit, A small fishing village in the northern Gaza Strip was the only settlement that evacuated without any confrontation or resistance towards the IDF Forces and respected the Israeli Governments decision. In 1982, 20 families arrived at Dugit by the permission of the Likud government where they lived in caravans and suffered many terror attacks for the past 23 years. Only recently they moved from caravans and other temporary housing into beautiful and luxurious homes that viewed the Mediterranean Sea. Until August 2005, 79 families lived in Dugit which was a non religious settlement where some worked as fishermen with Palestinians from time to time and some worked in Israel. Although neighboring Jabalia, a Palestinian Refugee Camp, they managed to keep their secluded bohemian lifestyle and developed a close and friendly community. On 14 August 2005, their whole way of life was changed. Everything they knew and loved had to be left behind and destroyed. Although the pain of the evacuation, the people of Dugit were willing to pay the price for peace and to start again.
