A NEW EMERGENCY MEDICAL STATION INAUGURATED IN SDEROT

Israeli Politician Amir Peretz at the dedication ceremony of the new Magen David Adom (MDA) Emergency Medical Station in Sderot on Monday, 31st March 2008, at 10.30 a.m in the presence of the Health Minister, Yakov Ben Yizri, the mayor of Sderot, Eli Moyal, the AF MDA Executive Vice President, Mr. Daniel Allan, the president of MDA, Prof. Yehuda Skornik, Dr. Noam Yifrach, chairman of the MDA Executive Council, Eli Bin, MDA Director General, Yehuda Shoshan, Director of MDA Southern Region, Representatives of the Donors, Workers and Volunteers. For the past seven years, the teams of Magen David Adom and the residents of Sderot have been suffering from the continuous firing of Kassam missiles. Over the past two years the situation in Sderot has deteriorated and having to run quickly to shelters or the protected rooms after a \"red colour\" alert sounds has become a way of life, accompanying the residents and MDA teams wherever they may be in the city. The station cost around one million dollars - part of the sum was from a very generous donation made by Ms. Naomi Kaplan in memory of her late daughter Judy, and the other part was left in the will of Esther and Hyman Rapport. In the station are offices, a lecture hall, an eating area, a doctor\'s room, and a large shelter which was built over and above the severe standards demanded by the Home Front, and it can accommodate tens of team members for many hours, in comfortable conditions.
