Diplomatic efforts were underway on Monday in order to secure the release of the kidnapped IDF soldier, cpl. Gilad Shalit after the soldier was kidnapped on Sunday after an attack by at least three Palestinian factions killed an IDF officer and soldier and wounded four others near the Kerem Shalom crossing in the southern Gaza Strip.
