Oz Harpaz lost his daughter, Liron Harpaz, in a terror attack at Eli Sinai on 02.10.01. He is reading one of her poems at her temporary memorial stone as he anxiously waits to place it again in the new Eli Sinai settlement on Friday Jan 13, 2006. Photo By Rafael Ben-Ari/Chameleons Eye.

MIDEAST ISRAEL ELI SINAI SETTLEMENT DISENGAGEMENT

Former Eli Sinai settlerseatting luch out side the main tent from above on Friday Jan 13, 2006. Five months (146 days) since they were evacuated from their Gaza homes this summer, the ex-Eli Sinai residents belong to the 25 percent of the former residents that are still living in tents, hotel rooms or dormitories. According to a new report released by the non-profit group Lema\'an Acheinu, more than 50% have yet to receive any compensation funds, and only 5.7% of the 2,100 people who lost their jobs have found new ones. The report paints a grim picture of the evacuees\' economic, emotional and family situations, including drug and alcohol use by teens and increase divorce rates. MIDEAST ISRAEL ELI SINAI SETTLEMENT DISENGAGEMENT

Former Eli Sinai residence get ready for Sabbath Dinner on Friday Jan 13, 2006. Although the hard conditions such as floods, cold temperatures and uncomfortable conditions, I found a small warm co-operative community living peacefully tent-by-tent along with other former Eli Sinai residents. In one caravan kitchen, the cooking shifts are shared by the camp ladies and the camp security is taken care of by the men with the help of their dogs. The main tent is used as one big living room where they eat, play or watch one shared television. They even have a small kindergarten and they organize a school bus service for their children.
