MIDEAST ISRAEL ELI SINAI SETTLEMENT DISENGAGEMENTA large signpost placed on the main road saying \"count the Eli Sinai settlers days with no home\" on road no. 4 at Yad Mordechai intersection, on Friday Jan 13, 2006. Five months (146 days) since they were evacuated from their Gaza homes this summer, the ex-Eli Sinai residents belong to the 25 percent of the former residents that are still living in tents, hotel rooms or dormitories. According to a new report released by the non-profit group Lema\'an Acheinu, more than 50% have yet to receive any compensation funds, and only 5.7% of the 2,100 people who lost their jobs have found new ones. The report paints a grim picture of the evacuees\' economic, emotional and family situations, including drug and alcohol use by teens and increase divorce rates.Photo By :Rafael Ben-Ari/Chameleons Eye |
